What is Eyelid Surgery?

If you feel your eyes are being framed by prematurely aging skin, you may benefit from an eyelid lift. The areas around your eyes are some of the first areas to show signs of age. Such factors as sun exposure, stress, genetics, and even squinting can all influence the rate at which the delicate skin of the eyelids matures.

As a top provider for blepharoplasty in NYC, Dr. Matthew White knows that, as skin loses elasticity over time, the upper eyelids lose their definition, and the lower eyelids can form shadows and puffy bags.

The eyelid lift, (blepharoplasty), can treat these concerns and restore a more youthful, rested appearance. In addition to the cosmetic benefits of an eyelid lift, if your skin has sagged to the point of obstructing your vision, facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Matthew White, can perform an eyelid lift to improve this condition.

How much does eyelid surgery cost?

The cost of eyelid surgery varies depending on the needs of each patient, and whether you are going to be getting upper, lower, or both upper and lower eyelid surgery.

Eyelid Surgery Patient Testimonials

I have been a patient of Dr. White’s for many years, and I have always been impressed with his understanding of the aesthetics of the face. I also like the fact that he specializes in facial surgery alone. Dr. White’s highly refined sense of facial proportion produces beautiful, natural looking results that do not in any way look like plastic surgery. You, only better!

Your
Eyelid Lift Consultation

Before you can move forward with your eyelid surgery in New York, you will need to schedule an initial consultation with Dr. Matthew White. During this meeting, the two of you will discuss a range of topics related to the procedure, including your cosmetic goals, previous surgeries, medical conditions and any medications you’re currently taking. It is a good idea to bring pictures of your desired outcome to this meeting to help communicate your goals. Once Dr. White understands what you hope to accomplish with blepharoplasty, he will carefully evaluate your signs of aging, bone structure and the elasticity of your skin, as well as assess your health status, risk factors and any other variables that could impact your procedure and outcome.

From there, Dr. White will develop a personalized treatment plan, which will include his recommendations for surgery, the cosmetic results you can expect, the financial investment you’ll need to make, and any associated risks and complications you should be aware of. He will also review your anesthesia options and make sure you know what to expect before, during, and after surgery.

The Blepharoplasty Procedure

During an upper eyelid lift procedure, Dr. White will make an incision in the natural crease of the upper lid, which is designed to make any residual scarring virtually unnoticeable. He will reposition fat deposits, tighten underlying muscles, and remove excess skin that may be contributing to a sagging, tired appearance. For the lower eyelids, the incision will be made on the inside of the eyelid, hiding any scarring. Like the upper eyelid lift, Dr. White will remove excess skin and fat while tightening muscles and the remaining skin for a smoother, more refreshed look. For this reason, Dr. White is considered to be one of the top providers of eyelid surgery.

Some other procedures like the facelift or brow lift can often be performed in addition to an eyelid lift for patients who would like to enhance other facial areas. Dermal fillers and other non-surgical treatments can also serve as effective complements to eyelid surgery.

Recovery After Eyelid Surgery

It is normal to experience bruising and swelling for the first few days after a blepharoplasty. Most of our New York City patients are able to return to work within the first week to ten days. To promote proper healing, you should avoid strenuous activities for the first couple weeks. If you have an additional procedure performed with the eyelid lift, your recovery time may last a bit longer. Dr. White will give you more specific details of your recovery process prior to your surgery, once he has evaluated your unique needs.
