Benefits of a Facelift
To provide the best results from facelift procedures, Dr. White will work in close collaboration with you to establish your ultimate goals and address any concerns you may have.
Facelift surgery has helped millions of patients achieve a more youthful appearance, with benefits including:
- Reduced signs of fine lines and wrinkles
- Restoration of a more rested, vibrant look
- Reduced appearance of jowls and loose, excess skin
- Long-lasting results
Typically, patients in their 40s or older who want to restore their youthful appearance can benefit the most from a facelift. The procedure has been known to take 10 to 15 years off one’s appearance. It is one of the most comprehensive and effective surgeries for facial rejuvenation. As such, it is Dr. White’s goal that you receive the best facelift results.
Dr. White’s facelift procedures depend on each patient’s unique needs. While some patients may benefit from facelift alone, others can further enhance their results with a combination of soft dermal fillers, neck lift and facelift surgery. Dr. White will discuss all of your options with you at the initial consultation and help you determine the best treatment plan for your goals.
Facelift Consultation
During the consultation process, Dr. White will evaluate your facial structure and skin to determine how a facelift can help you. He will also work with you to establish your goals for the operation and to learn whether alternative or less-invasive procedures may be more ideal for your unique needs.
To achieve the most realistic results, Dr. White will go over not only the benefits of a facelift in NYC, but also the limitations of the surgery. He will address any concerns you may have to ensure the most complete understanding of what you can expect from the surgery.
The Procedure
Our experienced New York plastic surgeon performs facelifts using very precise techniques so the results look as natural as possible. During a facelift, Dr. White will make small incisions behind the ears and along the hairline. This makes any residual scarring virtually undetectable. Dr. White will then eliminate excess, inelastic skin and tighten underlying muscles. The remaining skin will be re-draped and smoothed out for a revitalized, more youthful appearance.
Dr. White tailors each facelift in NYC for patients to provide the most natural-looking results. It is performed over the course of two or more hours, depending on the extent of the procedure and whether additional cosmetic enhancement treatments are performed at the same time.

Dr. White personalizes all of his facelifts to each patient’s unique goals and characteristics. With a traditional facelift, he makes a single incision near the temples, extending down and around the ears. Although this cut is relatively intensive, he always makes sure that it’s hidden within the hairline and concealed by the skin’s natural creases. This lengthy incision is very beneficial for some patients, as it affords Dr. White the greatest access to the underlying structures. As such, the traditional facelift tends to be the ideal option for our clients who are over 50 and need to address advanced signs of aging.
Another alternative offered by Dr. White is mid-facelift. With this option, Dr. White can lift and tighten sagging skin exclusively around the eyes and cheeks. This approach requires deep incisions hidden within the hairline and around the ears, which allow Dr. White to access and elevate the underlying muscles as well as the surface of the skin.
The mid-facelift is known for providing incredible results, but since it doesn’t address signs of aging on the entire face, it tends to be ideal for patients who only need a limited rejuvenation, such as men and women in their 30s and 40s.
And finally, Dr. White offers the mini-facelift, which calls for smaller incisions and results in a rapid recovery period. This approach primarily targets the jaw, lower cheeks and neck, with just a few incisions placed along the hairline and around the ears. Through those tiny openings, Dr. White can elevate lax muscles, remove excess fatty deposits, and trim away sagging and wrinkled skin. Because it targets such a limited area on the face, it tends to be the ideal option for younger patients who want to address the earliest signs of aging.
Mini-Facelift
A mini-facelift is similar to a traditional facelift, but it targets a smaller area of the face. A mini facelift addresses the cheeks and jowls and is a more “accelerated” version of a facelift, with shorter treatment time and a faster recovery. This procedure will leave some areas untreated, such as the forehead. It is an intricate procedure that must be performed with the highest level of precision and technical expertise.

Following facelift surgery, you will likely experience some tenderness, swelling and bruising. This is normal and should gradually subside during recovery. Bandages are applied to encourage proper healing and are typically removed after one or two days. It is important to keep your head elevated the first few days after surgery. Any discomfort during the recovery process can be managed with medication.
Dr. White recommends patients get plenty of rest in the days following the procedure and stick to a healthy diet to help speed the recovery process. He will schedule a few postoperative appointments with you to check on the progress of your healing. Dr. White advises you to avoid any strenuous activities for a few weeks after surgery. Most patients can typically resume normal social activities after 10 days to two weeks.
Are You A Candidate for a Facelift?
Ideal candidates for a facelift with Dr. White tend to share similar characteristics.
For example, they often possess:
- Sagging skin along the jawline or in the middle of the face.
- Nasolabial folds, or deep creases that extend from the nose to the corners of the mouth.
- Marionette lines, or creases that extend from the corners of the mouth down to the chin.
- Sagging or displaced facial fat.
- Heavy jowls along the lower face as a result of lost muscle tone.
- A double chin due to excess fatty deposits along the jaw and underneath the chin.
- Creases and sagging skin along the neck.
If you’re bothered by the above signs of aging, you’re in good overall health and you have realistic expectations for what a facelift can achieve, there’s a strong chance that you may be an ideal candidate for this procedure. To confirm your candidacy and begin planning your surgery, we invite you to schedule your initial consultation with Dr. White. During that meeting, he will evaluate the condition, quality, and elasticity of your skin, along with your underlying bone structure, to determine what a facelift can do for you.
FAQ S
Facelift

What is a facelift designed to treat?
A facelift addresses sagging skin and excess fat in the face and neck, tightening muscles and enhancing cheek definition.
Can a facelift reduce the appearance of wrinkles around the mouth, eyes and forehead?
No, facelifts can typically only correct sagging skin in the lower two-thirds of the face. The skin around the mouth, eyes and forehead can only be enhanced through additional procedures, such as eyelid surgery or injectables.
What age is ideal for undergoing a facelift?
Dr. White recommends patients be age 40 or older to undergo a facelift in NYC, as they can benefit the most from the procedure and show the most need.
How long can I expect a facelift surgery to take?
The duration of the surgery is dependent on the individual and the extent of his or her procedure. Additional procedures can be done in conjunction with a facelift as well. Once you and Dr. White have established your aesthetic needs, he can give you a better estimate of the time it will take. Typically, a facelift can last several hours.
Does facelift surgery usually leave scars?
Yes, but facelift incisions are made in natural creases and behind the ears, resulting in well-hidden scars. They are typically not a concern and are very minimal.

Patients often experience mild pain or discomfort following facelift surgery, but it can be treated with oral medication.
How much recovery time is needed before I can return to work?
Most of Dr. White’s patients feel socially acceptable within the first two weeks.
When can I resume my workout schedule?
It is best to avoid any strenuous exercise until you are thoroughly healed, which takes approximately two to three weeks.
Is the facelift covered by insurance?
No, insurance won’t pay for cosmetic procedures, such as the facelift. We offer financing options to aid in your payment of the surgery though. Please inquire at our business office for more information.
